Forklift trucks halos vs fixed interactive LED floor marking projectors

If you have done your research and looked at different types of forklift truck warning systems, then you may well have discovered that there are two main options available. Many factories have already opted for FLT mounted LED projectors also known as halos. The other option is to have fixed projection systems similar to clarity LED floor projectors. So which is the best option for you?

This article will discuss the pros and cons of each type and help you make an educated choice to choose the right projection system for you.

Halo lighting for forklift trucks

Halo lighting has been around for over a decade and is quite standard in many factories. Halo lighting allows pedestrians to be notified when there is forklift truck movement in the vicinity and varies from a simple blue Spot to a full surround halo protection.

Projected LED forklift truck floor markings

Projected LED floor markings or a newer development but work on the same principle as a forklift truck halo. A projected LED floor marking is usually used in areas. where there is a risk of interaction between either pedestrians or other traffic and forklift trucks. Rather than being mounted on the forklift truck, these projectors are optimise to give a very vivid distinctive warning in strategic locations and they are activated using microwave detection.

The benefits of a forklift truck mounted Halo

Because the Halo is mounted on the forklift truck, this means that the warning of a forklift truck goes wherever forklift truck goes, from racking aisles down to the loading areas in your yard.

The benefit of an LED projected floor marking

One of the challenges with forklift trucks is when there are fast doors or blindspots within your factory. It can be too late once the forklift truck has made its presence known at these pinch points whereas a projected warning is independence of the operator on the forklift truck and can project a warning before the door has even opened. In some cases where we have used pedestrian detection, we can actually prevent the door from opening if a pedestrian is crossing in front of it. The other advantage of a projected floor marking is that it can be set to any time or distance to give enough warning for pedestrians potentially crossing.

What is an integrated interactive pedestrian warning?

As well as warning of incoming forklift trucks, this would notify the pedestrian that it is not safe to cross or there is an incoming danger, we can also project a walkway or zebra crossing to guide the pedestrians along a safe route. This is especially important where there are potentially forklift trucks coming from multiple directions And buy using microwave detection we can reduce the human risk element.

What other ways are there to protect pedestrians from workplace transport?

At Clarity, we offer physical and non-physical pedestrian segregation products. The LED projected warnings are part of our non-physical pedestrian protection range, we can also offer Gates which Lock when a forklift truck is detected, and we can even control your traffic on site using a series of barriers and Gates.

Still undecided? Why not request a trial demonstration where we can show you a projector and how it would look in your warehouse.
