Iflex Pedestrian 3 Rail vs PED 90 vs PED 150 - What's The Difference?

When choosing a new pedestrian segregation barrier, it's easy to feel overwhelmed by the number of options available. While leading suppliers like A-SAFE, MPM, and Boplan offer excellent solutions, understanding the differences between their barrier systems is critical to making the right choice for your site.

At Clarity, we’ve helped hundreds of factory and warehouse managers select the right safety barriers based on their layout, risk level, and operational needs. And while we work extensively with MPM’s range, we know there’s no such thing as a one-size-fits-all solution.

This guide compares three of the most widely discussed pedestrian barriers:

  • A-SAFE iFlex Pedestrian 3 Rail

  • MPM PED 90

  • MPM PED 150

We’ll explore their strengths, drawbacks, and suitability for different environments—so you can make an informed decision that enhances workplace safety and reduces long-term costs.

1. Cost Comparison

Barrier Type Cost per Linear Metre* Installation Cost (Per Day)
A-SAFE iFlex Pedestrian 3 Rail £250+ £1,000
MPM PED 90 £150 £750
MPM PED 150 £200 £750

*Based on straight-line runs. Costs may vary for gates, corners or bespoke installs.

Installation Notes:

  • MPM barriers are modular and easy to self-install without voiding warranties.

  • A-SAFE warranties may be affected by non-certified installation.

  • Accommodation/travel may apply for external installs.

2. Barrier Strength & Impact Resistance

Not all barriers are tested or certified equally. PAS 13 suggests using 45° impact energy to define system strength, while UNI/TR 11886 takes the lowest-performing point as the overall benchmark.

Barrier Type 90° Strength (Joules) 45° Strength (Joules) Post Strength (Joules)
A-SAFE iFlex 5,800 11,800 2,700
MPM PED 90 3,000 6,000 1,600
MPM PED 150 9,087 18,174 4,100

✅ All MPM barriers are independently certified by TÜV and V0 fire rated.

3. Space & Footprint Efficiency

Factory space is valuable. With real estate averaging £1,000/m², footprint matters.

Barrier Type Post Diameter Space Used Per Linear Metre
MPM PED 90 90mm 0.09m²
MPM PED 150 150mm 0.15m²
A-SAFE iFlex 180mm 0.18m²

For tighter warehouse layouts, MPM PED 90 is one of the slimmest barriers available globally.

4. Appearance & Visibility

  • A-SAFE iFlex: Bold, round profiles with high-visibility orange.

  • MPM PED 90: Flat-faced rails with anti-climb ribbing and square posts.

  • MPM PED 150: Larger format for heavier-duty zones; retains MPM’s PVC modularity.

✅ MPM’s PVC material allows for slimmer designs without compromising strength.

5. Modularity & Customisation

  • A-SAFE: Offers a wide range of pre-sized pedestrian gates.

  • MPM: More flexible on-site. Rails can be cut to precise lengths, allowing exact layouts. Barriers can be retrofitted with gates or upgraded.

For example, the MPM PED 150 can be upgraded to the PED 150 LINK to dramatically increase impact resistance.

6. Installation & Maintenance

All three systems use similar post/rail configurations, but MPM’s design makes installation simpler:

  • Pre-measured post layouts

  • On-site rail cutting (in minutes)

  • Fixings included

  • Posts and rails slot together easily

MPM barriers also integrate seamlessly with LED projected safety signage for added visibility and pedestrian awareness.

7. Fire Safety & External Suitability

MPM PED 90 and PED 150 are made from V0-rated PVC and have been tested for UV and temperature resistance. If your barriers need to perform externally or in harsh environments, both options are proven to maintain durability and colour over time.

In contrast, A-SAFE barriers use polypropylene blends, which are more combustible and less UV-stable.

Which One Is Right for You?

Choose A-SAFE iFlex 3 Rail if:
