A Step-by-Step Guide to installing Mighty Line Tape

Get the most from your floor tape investment with this practical, step-by-step guide from Clarity Safety.

At Clarity, we don’t just supply Mighty Line - we help you get it right the first time. Whether you’re rolling out floor markings across a busy warehouse or adding visual structure to a new production zone, proper installation is key to ensuring long-term performance, safety, and compliance.

With the right prep and technique, Mighty Line tape can last for years, even in heavy-duty environments. Here's how to install it correctly and maximise its value:

Why Proper Installation Matters

Mighty Line is built to last! Up to 7x thicker than standard tape and backed by a 3-year warranty. But like any safety solution, it needs the right foundation to perform at its best.

Done right, installation takes minutes. Done wrong, it leads to premature lifting, lost time, and wasted investment.

Before purchasing, we always recommend testing Mighty Line floor tape with our free sample kits to ensure it suits your specific flooring type. Concrete and other surfaces can vary, so this ensures the best results.

Installation Guide – Mighty Line Floor Tape

  1. Prepare the Surface: Ensure the floor is clean and dry before installation. Avoid acid-based cleaners (or neutralise with baking soda) and use our non-chlorine all-purpose cleaner for best results. For heavily soiled areas, industrial scrubbers may be required.

  2. Dealing with Moisture: If the tape lifts shortly after application, check for moisture using a 2'x2' piece of stretch wrap sealed to the floor. If condensation forms underneath, apply a concrete sealer (e.g. V-Seal 101 or 102) and seal tape edges post-install.

  3. Oily Floors: For areas with oil or grease, use an oily floor primer like Tri-Chem’s Tri-Oil Stop to prevent adhesive failure and ensure a solid bond.

  4. High-Traffic Areas: Use Mighty Line Dots or Segments in areas with high forklift or pallet traffic. These are easily replaceable and ideal for heavy wear zones.

  5. Creating Neat Corners: For clean mitred corners, overlap two strips of tape, cut through both layers corner to corner, discard excess, and press edges together for a seamless finish.

  6. Repairing or Replacing Tape: Remove the damaged section, apply new tape using the mitre technique above, and ensure a flush, clean joint.

  7. Aisle Width Recommendations: Ensure aisleways are at least 3 ft wider than your largest equipment or a minimum of 4 ft, as per OSHA guidance.

  8. Choosing Tape Width: Mighty Line is available in 2", 3", 4", and 6" widths. We also offer a full range of 5S colours and formats to suit any area.

  9. Outdoor Use: While not warranted for outdoor use, Mighty Line can be applied outdoors with care. Avoid use in areas with salt or snowploughs, and follow specific outdoor use guidance for best results.

Pro Tips for High-Traffic Zones

For busy sites with constant pallet or forklift movement, consider using:

Want a polished finish? Mitre your corners by overlapping, cutting diagonally through both layers, and pressing edges together. It looks sharp and prevents curling.

Maintaining Your Floor Tape

Mighty Line is low-maintenance by design, but here’s how to keep it looking great:

  • Don’t drag pallets or skids directly over it

  • Avoid harsh acids and solvents

  • Clean regularly using standard warehouse floor cleaning methods

If tape ever becomes damaged, simply peel and replace. The adhesive removes cleanly, leaving no residue behind.

Sizing, Layout & Compliance

Choosing the Right Tape Width

Mighty Line is available in 2", 3", 4", and 6" widths, with options in all standard 5S colours and hazard formats (yellow/black, red/white). Not sure what size is best? We can help configure your layout.

Aisle Width Best Practice

For pedestrian and equipment zones, follow OSHA guidance: aisles should be at least 3 feet wider than your largest piece of equipment, or a minimum of 4 feet wide.

OSHA Colour Code Guide: The OSHA and ANSI Z535.2 Safety Colour Code system designates colours for specific safety purposes. For example, yellow is used for caution, red for danger, orange for warning, green for safety, and blue for notice. Mighty Line floor tape comes in a variety of colours, patterns, and shapes, allowing you to meet these safety standards and enhance workplace safety.
